Give Some Effort

I have been quite the frequent user of mass transit the past few months. The beauty of it being I can get in and out of the city without a car and spending no more than a few dollars. As nice as this is, the commute is never fun. Whether its the bus, train, subway or trying to walk between blocks, I’m always quite determined to get where I’m going in the shortest amount of time possible. But I took note of something the other night on the bus home. The bus driver made a point to say hello to each person that boarded the busy, along with a smile. Sometimes the greeting was returned, and others it wasn’t. You can only imagine the look some people must have gave while boarding the bus after a long days work and a tiresome commute home. I don’t know if some people simply gave a look of disgust because they were tired, or had a bad day, or had something on their mind. All normal emotions that will give off their corresponding visuals. But this isn’t the point here. It is no doubt that the bus driver knows this, and has made it a point to try and change that. Or perhaps he is just a happy person. I’m not sure what it is, but I’m pretty sure being middle aged and driving a bus for NJ Transit during rush hour isn’t exactly everyones idea of their dream job. Yet this man has decided to make the most of where he’s at. It makes you question if you’d really want to be this guy, or someone who works their 100k job, yet forgets to smile at the end of the day..
