H&M: unacceptable

This news as been all over twitter for the past day and a half but I just got around to reading this article, from the New York  Times. I would not do the situation any justice, so please have a read for yourself. It has been brought to the attention of now several thousand people that the clothing store H&M has been throwing away unsold clothing. Not donating, not recycling, not restocking, but throwing them in the garbage. And if that wasn’t enough, they make sure they cut each piece of clothing to ensure that no one finds such an item and gets to wear it without paying for it. None of the hundreds of homeless people on the streets of NYC right now who are without a down freezing during this time of year. I can hardly make it from my front door to my car without getting the chills, and now H&M you’re telling me that you have the means to keep someone warm and are simply throwing that away?! It is absurd that these business practices are taking place in our world today. It is examples such as these that make big business look really really sad. What person in there right mind would run a company like this? Forget dealing with the waste poorly afterwards, how about planning more efficiently from the start to save a couple bucks as well as your image. H&M has announced they are committed to never disposing unsold clothes into the trash ever again. Great, after this PR nightmare I guess you kind of have to say that don’t you.. You won’t be seeing me buying from then again, and that’s coming from someone who actually shopped there and liked the clothes. I hope others will have the same reaction, because this news is just down right pathetic and unacceptable.
