Smooth As

On Saturday, Brandon and I set out to film the last segment of the music video for Josh Sorhagen. We were attempting to not make this a seasonal video, and it being mid February and it snowing a foot over the past 2 weeks, we had to kind of stray from our original script. We decided to head into NYC, and use the streets and skyline as our background to hide the snow. Our plan was to shoot in Times Square and Central park, hoping to be wrapped by 4pm. I’m not sure if I’ve ever had a smoother day of production. We shot Time Square in an hour and a half, tripod and all, with no issues. We were at location #2 by 12:00, and lucked out with a brief scouting walk around to get our two scenes in the park. The sun was shining, it was unseasonably warm, and the wind was no where to be found. We recorded our last shot and were back in Penn Station by 2pm. Usually things just don’t work out during film production, but I guess some days you get luckier than others. I can’t say enough about the size of the 5D and how convenient it is to shoot with. Shooting video with a little DSLR in the middle of Times Square is a lot less conspicuous than any other camera that is going to produce comparable results. I’ve also been using my 70-350mm Tamron a bunch. Its an old lens with a Nikon mount, but with the use of an adapter and tripod, I’ve gotten some great shots with it. Frame grabs below, edit coming soon.
Middle of Times Square.
350mm with the Tamron. Great results.
Me in Central Park. Ahh the beauty of the size of the 5D.
Angle from the tree.
Great location in the park with the skyline in background.
* I was shooting in a pretty flat Picture Setting, so you will see a lack of contract and saturation in these stills. Images will pop a lot more after grading.
